Dole Food Co. is donating five salad bars to schools in Monterey, Calif., a contribution to be marked at a Sept. 27 event there.

Marty Ordman, Dole vice president of marketing and communications, and Monterey County agricultural commissioner Eric Lauritzen are expected to join state and local health and education officials at Foothill Elementary School in Monterey, according to a news release.

Childhood nutrition initiatives and actions schools can take against obesity will be the topics for the event, scheduled for 11 a.m. Pacific.

The salad bars benefit schools in the Monterey Peninsula School District.

They’re being donated as part of first lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools initiative. The effort has provided more than 1,440 salad bars benefiting more than 720,000 children.
