Dominic Russo, a cofounder of Detroit wholesaler Rocky Produce Inc., died May 21.
After returning from the Korean war Russo and his brother Rocco had their own route businesses where they delivered to local stores. Then in 1957 they decided to join together and form Rocky Produce as a wholesale distributor.
In its early years, Rocky Produce specialized in peaches, strawberries, cabbage and greens. The company originally was at the Eastern Farmers Market. In 1975 it relocated to the Detroit Produce Terminal.
Dominic Russo is survived by his wife, Mary; three sons, Jack, Dominic and Ronald; two daughters, Rose Ann Gentry and Geralynn Holland; 16 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
