LAS VEGAS — Packaging giant The Dow Chemical Co. was busy at Pack Expo 2013 again this year, showing off its 100% PE Recyclable Stand Up Pouch Sept. 23-25 in Las Vegas. Since Dow launched it earlier this year in Latin America, the design has since won numerous industry awards.

“The Stand Up Pouch is technology that will benefit Dow customers and the entire value chain,” said Nestor de Mattos, group marketing director for Food and Specialty Packaging at Dow.

Dow also plugged its commitment to industry collaboration in Pack Studios.

“Connecting Dow’s global network of industry experts with Dow Performance Packaging’s broad product portfolio, materials science labs and application testing capabilities, Pack Studios provides a collaborative environment to accelerate solutions for better packaging. Located at Dow’s Texas Operations complex in Freeport, Texas, Pack Studios Freeport is one of four state-of-the-art collaboration centers Dow currently operates across the globe,” according to a company news release.

Pack Studios aims to “accelerate packaging application projects through a global network of labs, experts and testing equipment,” the news release said.

Pack Studios centers are now in Freeport, Texas; Horgen, Switzerland; São Paulo, Brazil; and Shanghai, China. “Pack Studios is summarized in three words: collaborate – innovate – accelerate. These three propositions underscore the value that Pack Studios will bring to our customers,” Scott Collick, North America director of Technical Services & Development for Dow Performance Packaging, said in a news release. “By combining these three core values, Pack Studios becomes a catalyst for the packaging solutions of tomorrow, providing customers with a competitive advantage today.

“Pack Studios’ purpose is to assist Dow in fulfilling the larger goal of advancing the packaging industry as a whole while helping our customers improve their bottom lines,” Collick said. “This is more than a series of labs – it is a unique experience for each customer that allows them to accelerate their innovation process.”
