Duda Farm Fresh Foods earned a finalist spot in the Produce Marketing Association Impact award competition for packaging linked to its “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2” promotion.

Oviedo, Fla.-based Duda is one of 24 finalists for the packaging award; 67 companies entered. Winners are scheduled to be announced Oct. 18 at PMA’s Fresh Summit in New Orleans. Duda is scheduled to exhibit at booth 1219.

The award recognizes the effects packaging has on marketing, sustainability, food safety, convenience and supply chain efficiency.

Duda Farm Fresh Foods’ promotional packaging featured Sony Pictures Animation movie’s fresh produce characters. The promotion has been in stores since July.

Duda and other companies collaborated with hunger relief organization Feeding America for the campaign, coinciding with Hunger Action Month. In the U.S., 49 million people struggle with hunger, according to Hunger Action Month organizers.

“In addition to building awareness for Feeding America and giving fresh produce a new dimension, we’ve also donated thousands of pounds of produce to local food banks across America,” Nichole Towell, Duda director of marketing, said in a news release.

Among the movie’s characters are food animals — “foodimals” — that include tacodiles, shrimpanzees, hippotatomuses and cheespiders.
