Duda Farm Fresh Foods Inc., is planning to celebrate the first National Ants on a Log Day on Sept. 9.
“Ants on a log” is made by placing raisins on top of peanut butter spread on celery and Duda plans to recognize the snack with recipes, a Sept. 10 Twitter party and award prizes through flash promotions, Facebook giveaways and an Instagram contest.
The Oviedo, Fla.-based Duda is partnering with natural and specialty food purveyor Peanut Butter & Co.
The two companies applied for and received permission from the National Day Calendar for the second Tuesday of every September to be designated as National Ants on a Log Day, according to a news release.
“We will share ways to stay traditional with peanut butter and raisins, or mix it up with chocolate peanut butter and pistachios, and just about any other combination you can think of,” Nichole Towell, Duda’s director of marketing, said in the release. “This holiday is timed perfectly with back to school, and by using social media tools we can engage in a fun, fresh way with kids and adults alike.”
On Instagram, Duda invites celery lovers to post their favorite #AntsOnaLog snack to #entertowin Peanut Butter from @PeanutButterCo and coupons for #free Dandy Celery. Tag @DandyFreshProduce and @PeanutButterCo and use #AntsOnaLogDay to enter.
The snack name was first used in the 1950s and the typical peanut butter version of ants on a log is recommended as a healthy snack by the McKinley Health Center at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, according to the release.
