An Egyptian exporter has begun shipping fresh produce to North America.
Cairo-based Pico shipped herbs to Canada in 2013 and expects to soon begin shipping strawberries, according to a company news release.
Pico, which also increased exports to Russia, Southeast Asia and South Africa in 2013, shipped organic herbs to both eastern and western Canada last year.
Traditionally, Pico has focused its exports on the United Kingdoom and continental Europe with a product lineup including peaches, nectarines, grapes and strawberries.
Newer offerings from Pico include mangoes, avocados, cherries, plum tomatoes, lychees and Wonderful brand pomegranates.
