Shoppers purchasing New York apples in March are helping fund cancer research.
New York regional retailers are participating in the promotion, in which the Fishers-based New York Apple Association plans to donate $25,000 to support pediatric cancer research in the state. The fundraiser highlights apples health benefits, according to a news release.
Participating retailers have in-store displays of the state’s top varieties and are advertising the campaign in sales circulars, according to the release.
The retailers include A&P, Acme, Big M, Big Y, Fairway Foods, Foodtown, Gristedes, Key Food, Kings, Krasdale, Market Basket, Mars, Nice & Easy, Olean Wholesale, Pathmark, Price Chopper, ShopRite, Shurfine, Stop & Shop, Tops, Waldbaums, Wegmans, Western Beef and Whole Foods.
In its 11th year, the program has donated nearly $323,000 to American Cancer Society and to the Coaches vs. Cancer Program.
