The Food and Drug Administration is giving fresh answers to frequently asked questions on new food safety rules.

One document released in late March answers questions related to the produce safety rule, and another covers questions related to the proposed rule for food facilities.

The 15-page document on the produce safety rule covers what farms and commodities are covered under the proposed rule, The list of questions also includes discussion of exemptions to the produce safety rule and how they could be withdrawn. The FDA addresses the issue of whether packing of produce is subject to the rule.

For the produce safety rule for food facilities, the FDA provides 43 pages of commentary on frequently asked questions, including how the proposed regulation would define the terms including “critical control point,” “cross-contact” and “hazard.”
