A revised Compliance Policy Guide for food facility registration is available from the Food and Drug Administration. It is scheduled to be accessible online June 3.
The new version of the document provides guidance for FDA staff regarding the enforcement of the food facility registration provisions Section 415 of the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act as required by the Food Safety Modernization Act, according to a news release.
The policy requires facilities that “manufacture, process, pack or hold food for human and animal consumption in the U.S.” register with FDA and renew the registration every other year. It replaces the “Compliance Policy Guide” section of the 2002 Public Health Security and Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Act, according to the release.
As part of the revision process, FDA published a draft of the new policy in April 2013 and sought public comments. The agency received two comments, according to the release, neither of which recommended significant changes to the draft.
The FDA did not make substantive changes from the draft to the final version of the guide, according to the release.
