The Fresh Produce & Floral Council has donated $10,000 to the Philippines Red Cross to support relief efforts after typhoon Haiyan.

“This is one of the worst storms ever recorded,” Carissa Mace, president of the La Mirada, Calif.-based council, said in a news release. “We could not ignore the devastation of an entire nation. Some of our members have family in the Philippines, but it has impacted us all, and the board decided unanimously to do what we could to help ease the suffering.”

A link has been added to the Fresh Produce & Floral Council website www.fpfc.org for others who wish to donate. More information is available from the council at 714-739-0177 or carissa@fpfc.org.

In addition to providing temporary shelter, food and medical care, Red Cross teams are working in the Philippines to restore communications and other infrastructure. The organization is also aiding search and rescue efforts and has established a network to help connect with family members in the Philippines.
