Facebook contest promotes California figs

Valley Fig GrowersValley Fig Growers, Fresno, Calif., is sponsoring a Facebook contest with Sun-Maid, Cook’s Country and the “America’s Test Kitchen” TV series.

The contest, “Love at First Bite,” ends March 1. To enter, consumers recount their most memorable moment with a fig in 50 words or less on the Facebook site.

The top prize is a trip for two to Boston May 12-14 to see a filming of “America’s Test Kitchen.” Its estimated value is $3,500 and includes airfare, hotel and $500 cash.

The winner will also receive a cookbook signed by the show’s host, Christopher Kimball, an apron, subscription to Cook’s Country magazine, and a one-year membership at CooksCountry.com.

Two second-prize winners will also get the subscription and apron, plus a selection of three signed cookbooks. Ten third-prize winners will receive “The New Best Recipe” cookbook and California fig products with the Blue Ribbon Orchard Choice and Sun-Maid labels.

A similar contest last February and March was based on photos of figs submitted by consumers.
