The tightly-coiled shoots from ostrich ferns may be available through the entire month of June because the season started late this year, according to Ruma Fruit and Produce. Typically, the harvesting season for fiddleheads is short, beginning at the end of April and lasting through mid-June.

Ruma started shipping the specialty item in late April and supplies are increasing as the season progresses. Ruma packs and ships in 1-, 3-, 5-, and 10-pound boxes and retail clamshells are also available in 4 oz. and 8 oz. sizes.

This year, Ruma has also added a consumer-friendly resealable pouch in the 8 oz. size.
