Yakima, Wash.-based FirstFruits, the exclusive North American marketer of Opals, have held events in Portland, Houston, Boston and Minneapolis, and more are planned, according to a company news release.
Events in Minneapolis and Boston have been co-hosted by “Chop Chop” magazine, a family-focused cooking magazine. The events featured sampling and cooking demonstrations.
The consumer events also have drawn attention to FirstFruits’ Opal Youth Make a Difference Initiative.
In addition to public events, food bloggers and others have been chosen to host Opal parties. Kits for the parties include Opal-themed décor, recipe cards, an apron and Opal apples.
“Opal apple has been a huge success with consumers from the very beginning, and these events just continue to affirm that people love these apples,” Keith Mathews, FirstFruits’ chief executive officer, said in the release. “All we have to do is get people to taste Opal and the apples sell themselves.”
