Shannon Shepp, deputy commissioner of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, is moving to a management position at the Florida Department of Citrus.
Shepp is scheduled to begin working for the Bartow-based agency on Aug. 2 as its deputy executive director.
The new position is part of a restructured agency, said Karen Mathis, public relations director.
Shepp is to handle some of the responsibilities formerly managed by Bob Norberg, the agency’s former deputy executive director of research and operations. Norberg left his position March 18.
Serving as deputy commissioner since 2011, in her 12 years at the agriculture department, Shepp also was public affairs manager for Florida Citrus Mutual in Lakeland and was a legislative aide.
Doug Ackerman, the agency’s executive director, said Shepp was raised in the citrus industry and said her legislative experience in Tallahassee will help the agency particularly as it deals with smaller crops.
“She brings a vast knowledge of agriculture and all of its different aspects, as well as legislative and regulatory, all the way through having worked with the growers at Citrus Mutual,” he said. “The broad array of skills she has and her ability to work with limited resources will help us in the near term.”
