Food Lion launches Carolina improvements

Salisbury, N.C.-based Food Lion finished an overhaul of 169 stores in North and South Carolina, adding 500 new jobs.

The improvements cap off a widespread company revitalization by the Delhaize America-owned chain, with a produce-centered initiative called “Fresh From the Field” featuring “better quality, enhanced freshness and expanded variety in Food Lion’s produce section,” according to a news release. The company also launched a double-your-money-back guarantee for produce and store brand products.

The company celebrated with a grand re-opening at stores in the Carolinas on Nov. 13 through Nov. 16, including providing free groceries to the first 50 customers.

“With today’s launch, nearly all Food Lion Stores have received these store investments,” said Greg Finchum, senior vice president of retail operations for Food Lion, in a news release. “We invite customers to visit their local Food Lion, where they will experience firsthand new lower prices and other store enhancements, such as the greatest value in store brands and fresher produce.”

Local food banks also benefitted from the grand re-openings, with $2,000 donations providing up to 10,000 meals to recipients.

It would be nice to see Food Lion remodel their inside and outside stores with a coffee shop inside each store. Maybe a Dunkin Donut shop inside every Food Lion store will help build better customer services. Also, Food Lion should band all tobacco products to build a healthier environment.

Even though a lot of supermarkets have stopped using bagboys to take customer's groceries out to their cars, it would be nice seeing Food Lion Supermarkets start hiring bagboys to do this; especially for the elderly. Also, this would create more jobs and better customer service for the supermarket.
