The combined efforts resulted in Four Seasons Produce and its partners giving more than $50,000 to help four food banks in the state, according to a news release.
“As a part of the food supply chain we wanted to be involved with helping the food-insecure in our region. Donating from our profits during a busy time of year fits with our culture and what we care about,” Four Seasons director of sales and retail services Jon Steffy said in the release.
Officials at Four Seasons, Ephrata, Pa., selected the week of June 28 to July 4 to help raise awareness about increased needs at food banks during the summer months, according to the release.
Traditionally, donations to food banks decrease during summer when demand increases because of children not having access to school-based breakfast and lunch programs, Four Seasons general manager Jason Hollinger said in the release. “We like to give back. We’ve been blessed and we want to be a blessing to others.”
The $51,300 contribution is being split between four food banks that are all associated with the Feeding America organization. They are: Philabundance, serving greater Philadelphia and the Delaware Valley; Greater Berks Food Bank, serving Reading, Pa.; Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, serving the center of the state; and Capital Area Food Bank, serving Washington D.C. and Northern Virginia.
