Fresh Express is voluntarily recalling an undisclosed number of packages of spinach distributed to as many as 18 states because of possible salmonella contamination.
No illnesses were linked to the recall as of Nov. 8.
Fresh Express officials did not immediately respond to requests for additional details on the recall Nov. 8.
According to a Fresh Express release posted Nov. 8 on the Food and Drug Administration’s website, the company said the 9-ounce packages of Fresh Express spinach have use-by dates of Nov. 7 and a product code of S299B25.
A random sample of the spinach taken by the U.S. Department of Agriculture tested positive for salmonella. The date and location of the sampling were not included in the recall notice.
Fresh Express customer service representatives were calling “relevant retailers,” according to the release. The notice did not name retailers who received the spinach.
“Possible distribution states” named in the recall notice are Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
