Fresh Quest Produce Inc., is working with two Georgia grower-shippers to market cantaloupes.
Plantation, Fla.-based Fresh Quest and Tifton, Ga.-based Lewis Taylor Farms Inc., and Spring Hill Produce have entered into an exclusive melon sales agreement.
In the deal, Fresh Quest plans to market all of Spring Hill’s cantaloupe production, according to a news release.
Spring Hill is one of Lewis Taylor Farms’ packing sheds.
Spring Hill plans to harvest cantaloupe from early June and through mid-July.
“We are excited to have Fresh Quest market our cantaloupes,” Ed Walker, Spring Hill’s owner, said in the release. “Fresh Quest’s melon marketing experience during the winter will elevate our program to new heights.”
Fresh Quest and Spring Hill possess much in common, Alan Guttmann, Fresh Quest president, said in the release.
“Attention to quality and adherence to (Global Food Safety Initiative) food safety standards are critical Athena cantaloupe program components,” he said in the release. “The reputation for quality Lewis Taylor Farms and Spring Hill have on the East Coast is amazing. We have already seen significant interest in promotional opportunities with many of our East Coast customers.”
Lewis Taylor began farming operations in the 1930s as a transplant producer.
