With a focus on flavor, Fresh Quest Produce Inc. is releasing a new cantaloupe, dubbed the Honeymoon.
Plantation, Fla.-based Fresh Quest introduced the Honeymoon in January. It touts the trademarked melon’s golden exterior, light green flesh and “sweet flavor and aroma,” according to a news release.
The Guatemalan melons are harvested late December through April with peak promotable volume typically occurring in March and April, according to the release.
“Thus far, retail demand for Honeymoon has been very positive,” Alan Guttmann, president, said in the release. “At first, we were not sure that there would be enough demand to justify importing 250,000 cases, but it turns out that we are oversold through April. We are actually already writing Honeymoon contracts for the next offshore season.”
The variety is the first of three new melons Fresh Quest plans to introduce in North America over the next year, Guttmann said in the release.
Fresh Quest is marketing the trademarked Mayamoon melon, a super-sweet orange-fleshed yellow honeydew the company is offering in limited quantities, Guttmann said in the release.
In addition to cantaloupe and honeydew, Fresh Quest is an importer and grower-shipper of sugar snap beans, French green beans, okra and watermelon.
