FLORIDA — Shipments (124-159-233, red-flesh seeded 16-29-53, red-flesh seedless 51-130-180) — Movement expected to increase as more growers start the season in central Florida. Harvesting slowed. Trading very active. Prices generally unchanged. 24-inch bins per-pound red-flesh seeded-type 35s 24-25 cents; red-flesh seedless-type 45 count 29-30 cents, 60 count 29-30 cents. Quality generally good.

IMPERIAL AND COACHELLA VALLEYS, CALIF., AND CENTRAL AND WESTERN ARIZONA — Shipments (AZ seedless 0-23-16, CA 0-26-78, seedless 0-24-73, seeded 0-2-5) — Movement from western Arizona, Imperial and Coachella valleys expected to increase seasonally. Trading fairly active at slightly lower prices. Prices slightly lower. Red-flesh seedless-type per pound 24-inch bins approximately 35 and 45 counts mostly 22 cents. Organic red-flesh seedless 24-inch bins per pound approximately 35 and 45 counts 35 cents; miniature carton 6s and 8s $20.50. Quality generally good. Harvest central Arizona expected to begin the week of May 27.

Fresh Express, Nestle mix fresh with frozen

Lean Cuisine Salad AdditionsCourtesy Nestle USA Nestle USA is backing the launch of its four-product line of Lean Cuisine Salad Additions in a joint promotion with Fresh Express.

Salad Additions come with a steam pouch and include grilled chicken plus such items as broccoli, carrots, asparagus or peppers. Other vegetables and fruits are included. The packages, available at retail in the frozen section, have dressings and toppings.

The four varieties:

  • Asian-style chicken salad with sesame ginger vinaigrette;
  • Southwest-style chicken salad with chipotle ranch dressing;
  • Cranberry and chicken salad with raspberry cabernet vinaigrette; and
  • Bistro chicken salad with sweet and tangy vinaigrette with bacon.

Each has 350 calories or less, according to a news release.

On its website and social media, Nestle USA recommends pairing each Lean Cuisine product ith a different Fresh Express salad mix. The company is promoting Fresh Express’ hearts of romaine, sweet butter lettuce and baby spinach.

“We know that Lean Cuisine consumers have lettuce in their fridge, but they may not have the other ingredients or the time to make … a satisfying salad,” Mike Niethammer, the brand’s director of marketing, said in the release.

Combining frozen and fresh products offers consumers convenience and nutritional value, Bob Stallman, director of marketing and global licensing at Chiquita Brands International, said in the release. Fresh Express is a subsidiary of Chiquita.

Nestle USA is promoting both companies’ products on social media sites including Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram and Pinterest. Fresh Express is using Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.
