The Department of Defense announced several contract awards for fresh fruit and vegetable suppliers in August.

On Aug. 8, DNO Inc., Columbus, Ohio, was awarded a maximum $18.9 million modification exercising the second option period on an 18-month base contract to provide fresh fruit and vegetable support, according to a news release from the agency. Location of the contract performance is Ohio with a Feb. 9, 2016, completion date, supplying U.S. Department of Agriculture school customers with fresh produce.

On Aug. 22, The Produce Connection, Miami, was awarded a maximum $7.9 million fixed-price with economic-price-adjustment, indefinite-quantity contract for full line fresh fruit and vegetable support, according to the release. Location of the 18-month contract performance is Florida, with a March 6, 2016, performance completion date, according to the release. Contract customers include the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Department of Agriculture school customers, according to the release.

On Aug. 28, the Defense Department said Federal Express Corp., El Segundo, Calif., was awarded an estimated $51.2 million modification, exercising the third option period on contract over-packing and transportation of perishable subsistence to the Pacific Region. The contract provides for cold-chain packing, logistics and international air transportation of primarily fresh fruits and vegetables from the U.S. West Coast to various Pacific locations in support of the Defense Commissary Agency and Defense Logistics Agency, according to the release. Work will be performed in the Pacific locations of Japan including Alaska, Guam, Japan, Korea, Okinawa and Singapore, with a Sept. 30, 2015, performance completion date, according to the release.
