Black garlic distributed by Frieda’s Inc., Los Alamitos, Calif., was chosen as a silver finalist at the Sofi Awards.
The awards were put together by the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade, according to a news release.
Chefs, journalists and food producers judge food products and select winners for 25 categories.
Frieda’s black garlic won the Outstanding Cooking Sauce or Flavor Enhancer, according to the release.
Black garlic is made when garlic is aged for one month in a high-heat fermentation process, according to Frieda’s website.
