Frieda’s employees helped the specialty fruit and vegetable marketer celebrate its 50th birthday.
The Los Alamitos, Calif.-based Frieda’s Inc., marked its fifth decade at a June 23 company picnic.
The company invited employees and their families to El Dorado Park in Los Alamitos for food and games. Founder Frieda Caplan, president and chief executive officer Karen Caplan and vice president and chief operating officer Jackie Caplan Wiggins provided prizes and thanked the employees for their service, according to a news release.
“Frieda’s isn’t just a family-owned company, but a business that has become a family,” Caplan said in the release. “We wanted to thank all our employees and their families for their support as we recognize this company milestone. We couldn’t think of a better way than a fun-filled day in the park with all our family and friends.”
Caplan also thanked Frieda’s vendors and suppliers, which also donated gifts.
In 1962, Caplan founded the first U.S. wholesale produce company to be started, owned and operated by a woman, according to the release. The family operation introduced more than 200 specialty produce items including kiwifruit, spaghetti squash, habanero peppers and black garlic, according to the release.
