Spring distribution of two specialty artichoke varieties – Sangria and Fiore Viola – has begun at Los Alamitos, Calif.-based Frieda’s Inc.

The Sangria, grown in Lompoc, Calif., is red with a pointed shape and nutty flavor, while the Fiore Viola is purple, rounded and sweeter, according to the company.

Frieda’s is sold out on the jumbo size of Sangria, Karen Caplan, president and chief executive officer, said in a news release. The same size also sold out last spring.

The shipper’s Fiesole baby purple artichoke is expected to ship in late March or early April.
