Hollandia ProduceTom BurfieldHollandia ProducePLEASANTON, Calif. — Western correspondent Tom Burfield took these photos and gathered these news items at the La Mirada, Calif.-based Fresh Produce & Floral Council’s Northern California Expo April 9 at the Alameda County Fairgrounds April 9. 

GIUMARRA: Retired plum grower Helen Krause (from left) will be featured in a Nature’s Partner plum promotion from Los Angeles-based The Giumarra Cos. from June to September, say Jeannine Martin, director of sales, and Kellee Harris, Western region business manager. The promotion will feature a peel-off label with recipe for plum pie and reversible bin wrap that can be used with or without the promotion.

HOLLANDIA: Live Gourmet brand Living Upland Cress and Grower Pete’s Organic brand Living Watercress from Carpinteria, Calif.-based Hollandia Produce LP were certified as antioxidant-rich superfoods based on a laboratory analysis of their antioxidants levels by SCS Global Services, Emeryville, Calif., says Vince Choate, Hollandia’s marketing director. Bags of the product should feature the Antioxidant Superfood certification label starting in April.

Apio Inc.Tom BurfieldApio Inc.APIO: Eat Smart brand Shanghai Blend Stir-Fry Kit and Kale and Red Chard Stir-Fry Kit now are being introduced by Apio Inc., Guadalupe, Calif., say Julianne Hill, customer service manager, and Wayne Snodgrass, account manager. Both products include five superfoods, and each comes with a packet of stir-fry sauce and recipes.

SAN MIGUEL: San Miguel Produce Inc., Oxnard, Calif., has taken over an herb-growing operation in Ventura County and now offers a line of bunched Persian herbs, says Brian Cook, director of sales. The line includes flat chives, fenugreek, baby dill, spearmint and watercress. They’re available for retail and foodservice.

Tom BurfieldMelissa's/World Variety ProduceMELISSA’S: World Variety Produce Inc., Los Angeles, which markets under the Melissa’s brand, showed two new products – pineberries, strawberries that have a subtle pineapple flavor, and French Echalion Shallots. Sales director Steve Rodriguez says pineberries are imported from Holland and should be available until the end of May. French Echalion Shallots are imported from France.
