The 130-square mile quarantine is in the Anaheim area of Orange County and the Artesia and Cerritos area of Los Angeles County.
It’s an urban environment, but includes 78 acres of commercial bell pepper production on leased land at the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base, CDFA director of public affairs Steve Lyle said. The base is a California National Guard airfield and training facility.
The oriental fruit fly is known to target more than 230 fruit, vegetable and plant commodities.
The quarantine was announced Aug. 14. A treatment program has begun.
The zone includes portions of Buena Park, Cypress and Stanton.
