Giumarra Wenatchee is introducing a new New Zealand pear to North America this summer.

Giumarra Wenatchee, a division of Los Angeles-based The Giumarra Cos. will be the exclusive North American supplier of the Angelys, grown in New Zealand by Freshmax, according to a Giumarra news release.

Known for its sweetness, bronze skin and pink blush, the Angelys will be available in limited supplies beginning in mid-June and is expected to ship through August.

“This is the first time this variety will be available in the U.S. market,” Jason Bushong, Giumarra Wenatchee’s division manager, said in the release. “We think there is great potential growth with Angélys because of its unique characteristics and superb flavor. Consumers are really looking for flavor, and this pear will deliver.”

The Angelys also has a long shelf life and stores well, Bushong said.

Bred in France, the variety is grown in the Nelson region of New Zealand
