The asparagus grower partner of The Giumarra Cos. recently completed construction of dental and optometry centers for its employees and their family members.
The facilities built by Caborca, Mexico-based Campo Pablo Borquez are in Obregon, Mexico, according to a news release from Los Angeles-based Giumarra Borquez LLC, the joint venture between Giumarra and Campo Pablo Borquez.
The new health centers sit next to an existing employee health care center. Farmworker community development funds from Giumarra Borquez’s participation in the Fair Trade program were used to build the new centers, and will also be used to operate it.
“We view the care of our coworkers, their families and our neighboring communities with utmost importance,” Pablo Borquez Almada, Campo Pablo Borquez’s president, said in the release. “Our community involvement is as vital to us as providing high-quality products to our customers.”
Giumarra Borquez should begin shipping its fall asparagus crop in October and expects a substantial increase in volume this year.
