A golf tournament founded by the chairman of Miami-based The Produce Connection raised $125,000 for diabetes research.

Proceeds from the Don Strock Diabetes Golf Classic, which was May 14 at the Miccosukee Golf & Country Club in Miami, will fund research at the Diabetes Research Institute at the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine, according to a news release from the institute.

The Produce Connection’s Bruce Fishbein founded the tournament, which is hosted by retired Miami Dolphins quarterback Don Strock.

The tournament has raised $2.5 million total for the institute.

Other produce industry sponsors of the event included Southern Corporate Packers, American Fruit & Produce, M & R Produce Distributors, Sierra Produce and Quality First Produce.
