The Los Angeles grower-shipper-importer began harvesting and packing from central California in mid-April.
“The season is set to begin three weeks earlier than previous years due to great weather in California,” Julia Inestroza, marketing director, said in a news release. “With the season starting so early, we hope to satisfy the market’s high demand for blueberries right after the Chilean season.”
Gourmet Trading anticipates promotable volumes through late June.
The company markets the berries for retail, foodservice, wholesale and export in 4.4-, 6-, 24- and 32-ounce 12-count flats, 12-count pints and 8-count 18-ounce clamshells.
