Gourmet Trading Co., Los Angeles, has won the WorldStar Award in the food category for its two-piece display-ready asparagus shipper.
The company was eligible to enter WorldStar Packaging Organization’s international competition after winning the Institute of Packaging Professionals AmeriStar Packaging Competition, according to a news release.
Gourmet Trading and California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo developed the container in 2012.
The package can be converted from a shipper to a display box in seconds without the use of a box cutter, according to the release.
“We’re proud to be internationally recognized by the WorldStar Packaging Organization for this display-ready asparagus box,” Julia Inestroza, Gourmet Trading marketing director, said in the release. “It was a great opportunity for us to work with Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo’s packaging department on a real-world challenge and we’re ecstatic with the results: a box that saves time at the front-end of the store and allows for fresher product and less shrink for retailers.”
Gourmet Trading will be recognized at the WorldStar Award Presentation May 9 in Sydney.
