Oakland, Calif.-based Grant J. Hunt introduced the new bag at the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit in New Orleans..
The four-pound bag contains either California navels or valencias, depending on the season, and two seasoning packets from Guadalajara, Mexico-based Tajin. The seasonings are a mix of chile peppers, sea salt and dehydrated lime.
The bags are available year-round.
“It’s a great value-added opportunity for retailers of all sizes, as it can be used as a special in-and-out promotion or, if the stores have a strong Hispanic demographic, it could be a year-round item,” Eric Patrick, Grant J. Hunt’s marketing director, said in the release. “Consumers and retailers are looking for something new in the produce department, and the growing popularity of Tajín seasoning combined with fresh California oranges is a unique retail offering.”
