(UPDATED COVERAGE May 9) Eden Prairie, Minn.-based C.H. Robinson Worldwide Inc. will distribute Green Giant Fresh’s latest addition to its product line — avocados — when nationwide retail shipments start in late May.

The fruit will come in 25-pound and single-layer tray packs plus bags of three, four and five, all under the Green Giant Fresh label. Supply is expected to be year-round, but the company did not have volume projections.

C.H. Robinson will exhibit the fruit at United Fresh in San Diego May 14-16, said Mishalin Modena, senior marketing and communications manager for Salinas, Calif.-based Green Giant Fresh. C.H. Robinson was scheduled for booth 207.

“We’ve been pursuing it for awhile and working out the details,” Modena said. “Avocados keep trending upward. It just made sense. It’s a great product and a really nice addition to the line.”

All bagged avocados feature Box Tops for Education coupons, as do other produce items under the brand. Consumers can clip the coupons to raise money for local schools.

Sourcing will vary seasonally and include California, Mexico, Peru and Chile, said Mike Wilken, public relations manager for C.H. Robinson. Other brands the distributor has handled are Glory Foods, Mott’s, Welch’s, and Tropicana.

Green Giant Fresh’s produce licensing business is managed by Growers Marketing LLC.
