Green Giant Fresh is a finalist for the Produce Marketing Association Impact award for its pouch line of vegetables and fruits.

Salinas, Calif.-based Green Giant Fresh is one of 24 finalists for the packaging award. Winners are to be announced Oct. 18 at PMA’s Fresh Summit in New Orleans. The award recognizes packaging innovation for marketing, sustainability, food safety, convenience and supply chain efficiency.

The resealable pouch packages aim for greater consumer and merchandiser convenience, according to a news release. Cooking instructions, preparation tips and shopping lists are linked to the package through icons and quick-response codes that link to the Green Giant Fresh mobile site.

The modified atmosphere packaging improves shelf life and quality over bulk produce, according to the company.

The pouches were first tested on brussels sprouts in 2011. In the past year Green Giant Fresh launched more products, including sweet baby broccoli, artichokes, radishes, butternut squash, avocados and grapes, in the recyclable packaging.
