Independent retailers can learn more about the Sesame Workshop-Produce Marketing Association ‘eat brighter!’ campaign to market produce to children at a July 9 Web seminar hosted by the Arlington, Va.-based National Grocers Association.

The 2 p.m. Web seminar, with free registration features PMA president Cathy Burns and PMA customer service director Donna Bogia, according to the NGA.

“The NGA webinar is an example of the momentum being built within the retailer community (independent, regional and national) and beyond, and we’re thrilled with the progress being made,” Burns said in a statement.

Last fall, first lady Michelle Obama, the Partnership for a Healthier America, Sesame Workshop, and PMA announced a partnership that gives fresh produce companies royalty-free access to use Sesame Street characters to market fresh fruits and vegetables.

“This (Web seminar) will help NGA members to learn more about the opportunities ‘eat brighter!’ presents to industry to increase fresh produce sales and be part of a larger movement to change childrens’ eating habits,” according to the NGA’s website.

Ross Foca, president of East Coast Fresh, Savage, Md., also is participating in the seminar. East Coast Fresh is the first ‘eat brighter!’ adopter and soon will have Sesame-branded fruit and vegetable products on store shelves, according to a PMA Field to Fork blog post.

According to the PMA companies that have joined the campaign are:

  • Bolthouse Farms;
  • Coast Citrus Distributors;
  • Domex Superfresh Growers;
  • East Coast Fresh;
  • Fowler Farms;
  • Giumarra Cos.;
