Grower-Shipper Association names chairman

McKinseySam McKinsey of Green Giant Fresh by Growers Express was named board chairman of the Grower-Shipper Association of Central California at the association’s annual meeting in Salinas, Calif.

McKinsey is vice president of agricultural operations for Growers Express. He succeeds outgoing chairman Steve Church, director of sales at Church Bros. LLC.

George Tanimura, board co-chairman of Salinas-based Tanimura & Antle, will receive the association’s annual E.E. “Gene” Harden Award for lifetime achievement at a June 25 gala at the Monterey Plaza Spa & Hotel, according to a news release.

McKinsey will be chairman until May 2012. Margaret D’Arrigo-Martin of D’Arrigo Bros. of California is vice chairman for the year and Mark Borman of Taylor Farms is treasurer.

“I am proud to be able to do as they did and give back to the local agricultural community in this role,” McKinsey said in the release, referring to past chairmen.

Other board members for the term include Phil Adrian of Coastline Produce, Mark Borman of Taylor Farms, Butch Corda of Ippolito International, Mike Costa of Anthony Costa & Sons, Craig Dobler of Dobler & Sons LLC, Ernie Farley of Sundance Berry Farms, David Hart of Royal Packing Co. and Dole Fresh Vegetables, Chris Huntington of Hilltown Packing Co., Bob Martin of Rio Farms, and Steve McIntyre of Monterey Pacific Inc. and McIntyre Vineyards.
