The change took effect Jan. 1. His new business, Harris Consulting Solutions, will be based in Boulder, Colo.
“Essentially he’s shifting from a full-time employee to working with us on an as-needed basis,” said Robert Verloop, executive vice president of marketing at Naturipe. “He’ll still be doing category management and development, analysis of scan data, promotion planning and working with our key strategic customers and sales team to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.”
There were no immediate plans for a successor at Naturipe.
“But that’s always a possibility based on what Don’s time commitment is,” Verloop said.
Harris had been with Naples, Fla.-based Naturipe in the Boulder area since January 2008. Before that he’d held management positions at Boulder-based Wild Oats Markets, Inc., for five years; and at Safeway, Inc., for 30 years. His Wild Oats roles included vice president of produce and floral.
Harris has also served on industry boards and associations, among them the Produce Marketing Association; United Fresh Produce Association; and the Fresh Produce and Floral Council. At PMA he was on the retail board and board of directors.
“I wish them well as they pursue even more growth strategies and look forward to continuing to support their berry category development initiatives,” Harris said in a news release. “I am very excited about my new enterprise and the opportunity to work with other outstanding companies in the produce industry.”
