A United Fresh Produce Association web seminar in late April will inform produce industry operators how to manage requirements of the Affordable Care Act.

The speaker for the online event, set for 2 p.m. Eastern on April 30, is Chris Condeluci, an attorney who specializes in health care law compliance, according to a news release from Washington, D.C.-based United Fresh.

The United Fresh web seminar will address ACA compliance issues of particular importance to produce industry companies, including how workforce size and seasonal employment can determine if a company is subject to the law’s employer mandate and required to offer an affordable/minimum value plan to employees or pay a penalty, according to the release.

“This is something that came together because of mutual interest by our grower-shipper board and the United Fresh finance and business management council,” said Ray Gilmer, vice president of issues management and communication for United Fresh. “The Affordable Care Act has the attention of a lot of our members,” Gilmer said.

Condeluci, previously tax and benefits counsel to the U.S. Senate Finance Committee and now an attorney at Washington, D.C.-based Venable LLP, spoke about the topic at a session during the 2013 United Fresh Expo, Gilmer said.

Condeluci said April 15 the web seminar will cover how the law affects both small and large produce operations.

“For those employers in the industry that employ 50 or more full time equivalent employees, they will be subject to the employer mandate, and their compliance issues associated with that,” Condeluci said. He said there are also special rules for seasonal employees and seasonal workers, and Condeluci will cover those variables, he said.

The event is free for United Fresh members and $50 for non-members, according to the release. For more information, contact United Fresh Education Manager Shannon Young at syoung@unitedfresh.org or 202-303-3405.
