Organic produce wholesaler Heath & LeJeune Inc. will more than double its space when it moves into a new office and warehouse, probably in January.

The Los Angeles-based company will trade its current 17,000 facility for a 43,000-square-foot building in City of Commerce, Calif., said Rick LeJeune, the company’s chief executive officer.

“We’ve been working on this for a year, and we’re nearing fruition,” LeJeune said. “We’re rehabbing a great old produce building and adding on to it.”

The state-of-the-art “old/new” facility, as LeJeune calls it, will feature 18 loading positions and guarantee a higher level of food safety and handling efficiencies.

Heath & LeJeune, which was founded in 1981, has been in its Los Angeles facility for about 15 years — and has long outgrown it, LeJeune said.

“We’ve been holding back for the better part of two years,” he said. “This will allow us to continue growing.”

Heath & LeJeune ships all over the U.S. and Canada, but its recent growth has been strongest in Southern California, LeJeune said. The company ships a full lineup of organic produce from all over the world.
