Chile-based Hortifrut S.A. has entered into a partnership with ExpoFresh, a blueberry supplier in the early-producing Tucuman region in Argentina.
The partnership will strengthen Hortifrut’s supply of early season blueberries in South America, Nicolás Moller, chief executive officer of Hortifrut said in a statement to Elobservadormas.com. Terms of the deal were not revealed.
ExpoFresh produces both conventional and organic blueberries in Argentina, according to the report. Officials of both companies said in the statement to Elobservadormas.com that the goals of the partnership are development of new exclusive varieties, a leadership position in early season blueberry supply and operational and logistical synergies.
The merger further consolidates the company’s South American berry supply.
In October 2012, Hortifrut, one of the partner-owners of Naples, Fla.-based Naturipe Farms LLC, merged with Santiago-based Vital Berry, the second-largest berry grower-exporter in South America.
