The Houston Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Association’s 2013 Charity Golf Tournament is scheduled for May 1.

This year’s event benefits Boys & Girls Country, a Houston-area nonprofit organization dedicated to providing a stable home for children in need.

“This is an opportunity for the association to give back to the local community and be part of an organization that is making a difference in young people’s lives,” said Craig Slate, director of retail sales for Houston-based IFCO Systems.

Slate said the funds raised will be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables from grocery retailers to supplement Boys & Girls Country’s menus.

“The association is thrilled to be supporting Boys & Girls Country with healthy food, to help develop healthy happy young adults,” he said.

Registration for the event starts at 10 a.m. with a luncheon planned at 11:15. This year’s luncheon speaker is Lou Palma, executive director of Boys & Girls Country.

Tee-off is at 1:00.

Sponsorship and team signup information is available at www.hffva.org.
