About 1,000 people turned out to watch a high jump exhibition in a Hy-Vee grocery store in Waukee, Iowa, as part of the retail chain’s support of the annual Drake University Relays.
Olympic silver medalist Eric Kynard was among the 10 professional high jumpers who ran through the store on the approach to the bar. He had the best jump of the day on April 21, successfully clearing 7’ 6” and generating a roar of applause.
Hy-Vee director of event marketing Darin Hirl told local media it took three hours to clear the fresh fruits and vegetables from the store’s produce department so the high jump equipment could be set up.
The Drake Relays are April 23-27. Hy-Vee is a sponsor of the track and field event, which is in its 105th year.
