The committee’s retail grilling promotion with Weber-Stephen Products LLC, maker of Weber grills, kicks off Sept. 1, said Sherise Jones, marketing director for the Parma, Idaho committee.
In the promotion, Weber charcoal grills will be supplied to retailers for use in displays that incorporate USA Onions-branded Spanish sweets from Idaho and Eastern Oregon. The promotion will run through Dec. 1.
Following the fall promotion, on Dec. 15 the committee plans to launch a display contest to coincide with college football bowl season.
Retailers who create a display using Weber grills and Treasure Valley onions will receive a Weber’s Time to Grill cookbook and be eligible for other Weber prizes.
In addition, between Sept. 1 and Feb. 3, randomly selected retail customers will receive a cookbook or a Weber kettle grill. A grand prize winner will receive a large Weber gas grill on Super Bowl Sunday.
Jones said the campaign taps into the growing popularity of grilling, and in particular the trend toward grilling more healthful fare.
“Because grillers are becoming more health conscious and more sophisticated in their grilling recipe choices, produce is making it to the grill more and more,” she said. “Onions have always been a favorite for grillers.”
