Travis BlackerBlackerSUN VALLEY, Idaho — Travis Blacker, president of the Idaho Grower Shippers Association, will succeed Todd Cornelison as industry relations director for the Idaho Potato Commission, effective Oct. 1.

Idaho Potato Commission president and chief executive officer Frank Muir announced Blacker’s new role at an Aug. 30 breakfast during the Idaho Grower Shippers Association annual convention.

“Travis’ most recent role as president of the Idaho Grower Shippers Association makes him an exceptional candidate for this position,” Muir said. “The leadership Travis has provided to the industry and his day-to-day experience working directly with growers and shippers will prove invaluable in increasing and improving industry communication.

“As an Idahoan, Travis understands how important potatoes are to the Idaho economy and the importance and power of a well-informed and unified industry,” he said.

Muir said he’s urging Blacker to make finding his successor at the IGSA his top priority in coming weeks.

“We’re actively looking right now and taking applications through the next three or four weeks, and we have established a search committee,” Blacker said Aug. 29.

Blacker will work out of the IPC’s eastern Idaho office, focusing on improving communication within industry channels.

Blacker’s experience in the industry started in the frozen potato segment, at a company now known as Dickinson Frozen Foods, Fruitland, Ohio. He was supply chain manager at Dickinson before joining the Idaho Grower Shippers Association.

Cornelison, president of his own family business, Rexburg, Idaho-based High Country potato shed, will focus on that business, which is in growth mode following a June partnership with L&M Cos.
