Infinite Herbs LLC voluntarily recalled one lot — almost 600 units — of organic basil because a random test by the Food and Drug Administration returned a positive result for salmonella.
The 2.5-ounce clamshells of fresh organic basil were packed Feb. 21, according to a news release by the Miami-based company on March 14. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the organic basil.
They were shipped to only Trader Joe’s retail stores in Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee, according to the release.
Company spokeswoman Amy Philpott said no additional information was available as of March 17.
After the FDA’s routine random sampling showed a positive result for salmonella, Infinite Herbs and Trader Joe’s requested subsequent testing on other lots of the basil at retail locations and at the growing operation. None of those tests had positive results for salmonella contamination, according to the news release.
