San Francisco-based Jacobs, Malcolm & Burtt Produce plans to add organic asparagus to its product line in November.

The broker will start with trial crops from northern Mexico through January. JMB Produce is developing California acreage for longer availability in 2014, according to a news release.

The company is scheduled for booth 519 at the Produce Marketing Association Fresh Summit in New Orleans. The trade show’s expo is Oct. 19-20.

The new product will be shipped in standard 11-pound boxes of bunched asparagus, but other configurations will be available.

“In keeping with the times, we are representing our growers and customers who have realized that organic farming is viable,” JMB production manager Dan Miller said in the release.

Is the Delta Asparagus from JMB Farms sold at our local Safeway actually Organic? Because they're not advertising it as "Organic". Just "local" which is sort of silly. and you're located right in the middle of pesticide alley with chemical- laden breezes/winds/air to breathe.
