Marketed by Wenatchee, Wash.-based Columbia Marketing International, the super sweet variety was developed in Italy in the early 1990s. Kiku apples are sweet, ruby red and crunchy with firm flesh. CMI first introduced them to the U.S. in 2009, according to a news release.

Bob Mast, CMI’s vice president of marketing, said availability is limited.

“While supplies last — possibly through February,” he said.

Have been purchasing the Kiku apples at Reasors grocery store, and I have to say they are probably the best apple I've ever eaten.
