On Aug. 2, members of the Western Cape Citrus Producers Forum and AMC Importers, a part of AMC Direct Inc., in Swedesboro, N.J., conducted some promotions for the Parsippany, N.J.-based Kings Food Markets’ stores, according to a news release.
The Citrusdal, South Africa-based forum sponsored the promotions in Kings’ Gillette, N.J., and Short Hills, N.J., locations.
The first event began at the Short Hills store and ran for nearly an hour and was followed by the Gillette event, a new store which opened during the spring, the release said.
The promotions involved samplings of clementines, navels and cara caras and also included an appearance of King Citrus — South Africa summer citrus’ new lion mascot.
Consul for Trade Affairs of South Africa Gugulethu Gingqialso joined in the promotions.
South Africa’s citrus season typically finishes in late October or early November as the new California and Florida crops begin shipping.
