(CORRECTED) Like her mother-in-law did in 2004, former first lady Laura Bush is scheduled to appear at the United Fresh Produce Association’s convention. Bush is slated to speak at United Fresh 2012 May 2 at the general breakfast session, according to a news release from Washington, D.C.-based United Fresh.
“To host the former first lady at United Fresh 2012 in her home state of Texas is an honor,” Tom Stenzel, president of United Fresh, said in the release.
Fred Morganthall, chairman of the Washington, D.C.-based Food Marketing Institute and president of Harris Teeter Supermarkets, Charlotte, N.C., is also scheduled to speak. Morganthall will speak on the future of food retailing at the May 1 breakfast general session, according to the release.
Bush, first lady from 2001 to 2009, has been a supporter of causes including literacy, education, human rights and health care, according to the release.
Morganthall began his career with Harris Teeter in 1986 and was named president in 1997.
United Fresh 2012, set for May 1-3 in Dallas, will be co-located with the Food Marketing Institute, American Meat Institute and the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture conventions. Attendance is expected to be about 25,000, according to the release.
