Liberty Fruit golf event raises half million

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Liberty Fruit Co. passed the half-million dollar mark this year at Sept. 16 its charity golf tournament.

Chief operating officer Scott Danner said the company wrote a check to Children’s Mercy Hospital for $400,000, while the event raised $510,000 total.

Other charities receiving donations are:

  • Armourdale Renewal Association;
  • Little Sisters of the Poor;
  • Jewish Family Service;
  • Drumm Farm, a center for troubled youths; and
  • Midwest Classic golf tournament.

Kansas City, Kan.-based Liberty’s president Allen Caviar invited his childhood friend, actor/comedian Rob Riggle to participate in the tournament at Tiffany Greens Golf Club.

Riggle said he was happy to help a charity that benefits a world-class hospital such as Children’s Mercy in Kansas City.
